The history of these prints began with the purchase of a first edition of the Book
of Mormon, printed in 1830. The book, authenticated by historians at Brigham Young University was falling apart and incomplete.
David Lindlsey agreed to create 285 prints from his painting, “The Prophet of the Lord” to create a special
framed setting for the individual page. This was one print for each (two sided) page in the old Book of Mormon. David modified
the length and background of the print to accommodate the individual page. Shortly afterwards the book was stolen. What remains
are the prints. These Limited Edition numbered prints were custom made and individually hand signed by the artist, David Lindsley
whose work has appeared on the cover of the Ensign Magazine and in other church settings. David’s signature authenticates
the print.
The original print entitled “The Prophet Of the Lord” depicts the prophet, Joseph Smith, in
a typical 18th century shirt. The artist took many months carefully studying the death mask of the prophet in order to portray
the face depicted in the painting. Every detail presents an authentic painting, as Joseph himself would have appeared. In
his hand, Joseph holds a copy of the 1830 First Edition of The Book of Mormon. Chosen for its excellent workmanship and
presents “The Prophet of the Lord” conveys an important message concerning this moment in history. * Please
note copies of the orignal print are not currently available at this site.
